India’s commodity market covers physical goods such as gold, silver, crude oil and industrial metals, alongside exchange-traded contracts linked to those goods. Start with the price basis: a jewellery reference rate, a bullion benchmark and an MCX futures quote are different observations. Compare the same commodity, unit, purity, contract expiry and timestamp before drawing conclusions.

Data status — 14 October 2026: The gold figures below are dated, source-reported indicative retail snapshots. This page has no connected live commodity feed. Silver has an unresolved source discrepancy; current MCX quotes are unavailable here. A retrieval time records when a source was read, not when a trade occurred.

Gold references are reviewed for 14 October 2026. Daily change uses the selected source’s 13 October row; values are not executable dealer quotations. Tax inclusion is not certified. Confirm fees and tax on an itemised seller invoice. View the selected national gold source.

“Unavailable” is not a zero price or zero change. It means a usable observation with the required date, basis and provenance has not been selected. Static snapshots do not refresh automatically. How TradeGrows labels market data explains the distinction between live, delayed, snapshot and unavailable information.

Gold and Silver Rates Today

Gold: national overview and city rates

The India gold-rate overview provides separate 24K and 22K quantity tables, dated history, city comparisons and a manual invoice estimator. The Vijayawada gold-rate page adds a sourced local 24K/22K/18K snapshot and buying checks. A city listing is an indicative reference, not a commitment from every shop in that city.

Compare equal weights and purities. Jewellery may include stones or non-gold components, making charges and different buyback deductions. Do not treat a 24K price as an interchangeable 22K quote or an MCX futures settlement value.

Silver overview: compare the source basis first

As checked on 9 October, GoodReturns’ silver overview and city table show ₹2,35,000/kg in the national header/current quantity table but ₹2,34,900/kg in the 9 October history row. Its history also displays a zero change despite a different previous-day figure. Because these do not reconcile, this page does not select a single national silver quote or compute a daily change.

The source separately lists city rates. City differences should be checked against a dated local dealer quote, weight, fineness and invoice terms; they do not resolve a conflicting national series. TradeGrows does not yet have a standalone silver overview or silver city page, so the link above is clearly identified as an external source rather than a nonexistent internal page.

MCX lists commodity derivatives across bullion, energy and base metals. The coverage table identifies the contract families readers may want to check; it does not claim that their current quotes are loaded on TradeGrows. The official MCX Market Watch includes futures and options. An option premium is not the underlying commodity’s futures price.

The market-watch material retrieved for this review was labelled 8 October 2026, 04:07; the displayed time did not specify an AM/PM or timezone in that extraction. A rendered-browser recheck was blocked by a CAPTCHA. That material is not used as a 9 October live quote. No current expiry, LTP, previous close or change is inferred from it.

For any future quote, check the symbol, instrument type, expiry, INR quotation unit, exchange timestamp, volume and source status together. Quotation unit and lot size are different: MCX’s January 2026-onwards crude-oil specification quotes rupees per barrel, while the standard trading unit is 100 barrels. The corresponding natural-gas specification quotes rupees per mmBtu, with a standard trading unit of 1,250 mmBtu. Check the latest circular for the actual contract and any later revision; mini variants have different sizes.

How Commodity Trading Works in India

MCX, contracts and exposure

MCX is an Indian commodity derivatives exchange. A futures contract standardises the commodity, quantity, quality where relevant, expiry and settlement terms. Participants may use it to manage price exposure or take market risk. Buying a futures contract does not mean immediately buying jewellery or receiving a barrel of oil. SEBI’s commodity-derivatives FAQs explain the basic contract and settlement framework; current exchange and clearing circulars take precedence over that older educational document.

Start by checking the broker’s registration and that commodity derivatives access is enabled for the account. Read the selected contract specification before placing an order. Record the expiry, quotation unit, lot size, tick size, settlement method, delivery/tender period where relevant and all applicable costs. Verify an Indian market claim or intermediary before acting on a message or app advertisement.

Trading hours and holiday checks

MCX circular MCX/TRD/068/2026, dated 9 February 2026, set non-agricultural trading hours of 9:00 AM–11:30 PM, effective 9 March 2026 after the start of US daylight-saving timings. Its selected agricultural group (cotton, cotton oil and kapas) closes at 9:00 PM; other agricultural commodities at 5:00 PM. These are Indian exchange session times, stated here in IST.

A newer MCX circular MCX/TRD/550/2026, dated 29 September 2026, announces a non-agricultural close of 11:55 PM IST for 2 November 2026–12 March 2027, inclusive. That later session is not yet effective on 9 October.

Do not assume the schedule applies unchanged to every future date or holiday. Seasonal closing times, exchange holidays, special sessions and contract-specific exceptions can differ. Confirm the current MCX circular and your broker’s session notice before an order; a calendar clock on this page would not prove the exchange is open.

Margin is collateral, not a maximum loss

A futures position requires margin rather than payment of its entire notional value upfront. That does not reduce the exposure to the margin amount. Initial margin, extreme-loss margin and additional, special or delivery-related margins may apply. MCXCCL’s daily-margin page provides the contract/expiry framework; no current margin percentage is quoted here because a dated populated record was not retrieved.

Mark-to-market adjusts gains and losses using settlement prices. Losses can require more funds, and a broker may close positions when funds are insufficient. Slippage, price gaps and fees can increase the final loss. A stop-loss instruction is not a guarantee of execution at the chosen price. For risk-aware preparation, see common trading mistakes to avoid.

Expiry and settlement obligations

Check whether the selected contract settles in cash or can create physical-delivery obligations. The standard crude-oil and natural-gas specifications cited above describe cash settlement; that is not a statement about all commodities. For deliverable contracts, tender periods, delivery margins, quality standards and broker deadlines matter. Do not carry a position toward expiry without understanding those terms. Information here is educational, not personalised financial advice or an invitation to trade.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the commodity prices on this page live?

No. Gold is a source-reported snapshot for 12 October 2026, not a live feed. Silver is flagged for conflicting source figures; current MCX prices are unavailable on this page. Each selected observation shows its date, unit, status and source rather than a simulated refresh time.

What time does MCX commodity trading start and end?

The cited circular effective 9 March 2026 lists non-agricultural commodities from 9:00 AM to 11:30 PM IST. Agricultural groups have different closing times. Check the latest circular, holiday calendar and broker notice for the date and contract you intend to trade.

Why are MCX gold prices different from jewellery gold rates?

An MCX futures quote refers to a specified exchange contract and expiry. Jewellery reference rates and invoices may have different fineness, local premiums, making charges and taxes. Compare those terms before interpreting a difference as a trading opportunity.

What does an MCX crude-oil or natural-gas unit mean?

The cited standard crude-oil contract quotes INR per barrel; the natural-gas contract quotes INR per mmBtu, a unit of energy. Those quotation units are not their lot sizes. Check the specification for the standard or mini variant and the chosen expiry.

Is margin the most I can lose?

No. Margin is collateral supporting a larger contract exposure. Mark-to-market losses, gaps, slippage and costs can require additional funds and can exceed the initial margin. No fixed safe margin amount is suggested here.

Why is there no selected silver price?

The source’s 12 October national header/current table and history row show different kilogram values. TradeGrows flags that discrepancy instead of averaging them or declaring one figure independently verified. Use a dated, basis-matched local quote for a purchase decision.

Do all commodity futures involve physical delivery?

No. Settlement is contract-specific. Some are cash-settled and others can result in delivery obligations. Review the expiry, tender period, settlement method and broker deadline before maintaining a position.

Can I use these figures as a trading recommendation?

No. They provide market context and explain how to compare sources. They are not buy/sell calls, target prices, promised returns or personalised financial advice. A dated snapshot can become stale and should not be used as an executable quote.

Compare source dates, purity and invoice costs, not just city labels.
