Gold Price Calculator
Illustrative jewellery-cost calculator
Enter net gold weight, not stone-inclusive gross weight. Fees and tax are not prefilled. The rate starts with the dated, purity-matched reference where available; confirm its basis before use. Values remain in this browser and are not transmitted.
This is illustrative arithmetic, not a dealer quote, invoice, tax determination, appraisal or recommendation. Tax treatment and charges depend on the actual item and invoice.

Turn a reference rate into a comparable quotation
A city rate answers a limited question: what a named provider displayed for a specified purity, unit and date. It is not a seller’s promise to supply a particular ring, chain, coin or bar at that amount. It does not identify the item, reserve stock, establish the weight that will be charged, or include every commercial term in the final bill.
That limit is useful, not a flaw. Use the dated rate in the widget as the common metal reference, then ask each seller for a written quotation for the same or genuinely comparable item. A better quote is not necessarily the one with the lower headline metal rate; it is the one whose calculation, item description and terms can be checked before payment.
Make a two-column comparison sheet. Put the quotation date and its rate-validity window at the top of each column. Then record the item or design reference, declared purity, rate per gram, charged metal weight, and each other line of the bill. If one seller quotes an all-in total while another separates components, ask for an itemised revision before deciding. A total that cannot be reconciled is not a like-for-like comparison.
At a minimum, a quotation should identify:
- the seller, quotation date, item description and any design or order reference;
- the declared purity and the rate per gram used for that order;
- gross weight, net gold weight, and any stone or non-gold weight separately where relevant;
- the base-metal calculation, making-charge method and rupee amount;
- wastage or any other separately stated charge, discount, and invoice tax line;
- the final payable amount, advance received, quote expiry or rate-lock condition, and collection or cancellation terms.
The invoice at collection should be checked against the quotation, not merely against memory or a screenshot of a city-rate page. If the rate, weight, purity, specification or charge has changed, ask for the reason and a revised written calculation before paying the balance.
Start with purity and the weight actually charged
24K, 22K and 18K are separate purity categories. Do not apply a rate for one category to an item described as another. The selected city source labels the categories separately, and the page widgets keep those references separate for the same reason. The item’s stated purity, its physical marking and its invoice description should tell the same story.
A high-purity reference may be relevant to a high-purity product, while a jewellery quotation may instead concern a lower-purity article chosen for its design or durability. Neither label settles the finished-item bill. Compare only quotations with the same declared purity, or identify the difference clearly before judging the price gap.
Weight is just as important. For a plain item, the charged metal weight may be simple to see. For stone-set, enamelled, clasped or otherwise mixed-material jewellery, gross weight can include material that should not automatically be valued using the gold rate. Ask which weight the seller multiplies by the gold rate. Request stone weight, stone charge, and non-gold components as distinct lines if applicable.
Do not infer a net weight from a photo, a product name or a round-number estimate. Ask to see the weight and the calculation used. A small difference in charged weight can matter more to a completed invoice than a small difference in a displayed city reference.
Read every cost line, including tax
Making charges can be expressed per gram, as a percentage, as a fixed amount or as an item-specific bundled amount. The label alone is not enough: ask for both the method and the rupee amount. Compare making charges only after matching the design, purity, gold weight and stone treatment. A complex item may not be comparable with a plain one merely because both are described with the same purity.
If a seller applies a charge called wastage, ask for the calculation base, amount and whether it is already included in making charges. Ask the same question about certification, packing, delivery, resizing, exchange deductions and any service fee. Do not assume a standard Ajmer percentage, because this review did not verify a citywide charge schedule or uniform retailer practice.
Tax is an invoice question, not a field to guess from a rate page. The official GST Council Gems & Jewellery FAQ, in its Question 7, addresses tax on the total transaction value of jewellery when making charges are separately shown. That document is explanatory source material, not confirmation of the current classification, rate, taxable value or treatment for a particular purchase. Ask the seller to show the tax basis, tax amount and final total on the current invoice; seek qualified tax advice for a transaction-specific question.
Check hallmark information without over-reading it
The BIS hallmarking overview describes hallmarking as the accurate determination and official recording of the proportionate precious-metal content in an article. In practical terms, inspect visible marks where possible and compare the stated purity and article description with the invoice. Hallmarking is evidence about fineness; it does not by itself establish a seller’s buyback value, return terms, stone value, making charge or whether the overall quotation is competitive.
Where a six-character HUID is relevant, ask the seller how the article’s identifier and invoice description correspond. BIS’s consumer-protection information says consumers may have jewellery or a sample tested at a BIS-recognised assaying and hallmarking centre on a chargeable basis, with an assay report carrying identification marked on the article. Treat this as a possible verification route, not as a substitute for checking the item and paperwork before completing payment.
Why a dated city reference can change
A city reference can reflect changes in international gold pricing, the rupee’s relationship with other currencies, domestic bullion conditions and the provider’s own data process. A finished jewellery quote can also differ because of product availability, fabrication, delivery, stone work, seller terms and the time at which a rate is locked. These mechanisms explain why references and invoices may move; they do not predict the next price or recommend when to buy.
For a time-sensitive order, record the provider’s date alongside the seller’s quotation time and rate-validity condition. Do not compare an older reference, a futures quote, an international spot quotation and a current retail bill as if they all describe the same product or timing. The history widget is a dated record from the selected provider, not a forecast or a return estimate.
A practical Ajmer documentation habit
Rajasthan Tourism describes Ajmer as a pilgrimage and visitor destination, including its proximity to Pushkar. That is a reason to be especially organised if a purchase will be collected while travelling, not evidence of a special local jewellery practice. A resident and a visitor alike should leave with a readable final invoice, payment record, applicable certificate or product document, and written policy terms.
For a made-to-order piece, keep the approved design reference or detailed description with the advance receipt. The receipt should distinguish the amount paid from the remaining balance and should state any terms for a rate lock, changes, cancellation, refund or delivery. Before leaving the counter, compare the physical item, its marks, declared purity, weights and all invoice lines with the agreed quotation. Save legible scans or photos as well as the paper originals.
Compare city pages carefully
The national gold rate today reference and the broader commodity-trading coverage can provide context, but they are not substitutes for an itemised Ajmer quotation. When using another city page, first match the provider, source date, purity and unit; then check whether it is a metal reference or a finished-product quote.
For controlled context, readers can review the same questions on the Sikar gold-rate page, Jaipur gold-rate page, Sri Ganganagar gold-rate page, Kota gold-price page, Jodhpur gold-price page, and Jaisalmer gold-price page. A difference between city references does not prove that one retailer will offer a lower finished bill.
Frequently asked questions
Where are today’s Ajmer gold references shown?
The summary widget at the top displays the selected provider’s dated Ajmer references by purity. Use it as a starting reference, then obtain a seller’s written item-specific quotation before buying.
Can I apply a per-gram rate to an item’s gross weight?
Not automatically. Confirm the metal weight actually charged and separate stones or non-gold components where relevant. Applying a gold reference to gross weight can make a comparison misleading.
Which rate should appear on a jewellery quotation?
The seller should state the rate per gram used for that order, its purity, the charged weight, and the time or condition for which that rate is valid. A city widget does not replace that quotation line.
Does hallmarking prove that the complete invoice is fair?
No. BIS hallmarking concerns precious-metal fineness. It does not settle making charges, stone valuation, discounts, tax calculation, exchange terms or a seller’s buyback policy. Check those items separately.
Does a displayed city rate include making charges or tax?
Do not assume it does. The selected reference is not presented as a transaction-specific dealer invoice. Ask the seller to itemise making charges, all other charges, tax basis, tax amount and the final payable total.
Can I compare Ajmer with another Rajasthan city?
Yes, but only after matching source, date, unit and purity. Even then, compare complete item-specific quotations before drawing a conclusion about the amount you would actually pay.
What records should I keep after collection?
Retain the written quotation, advance receipt, final invoice, payment proof, product or hallmark documents provided, and written return, exchange, repair or buyback terms. Keep readable digital copies too.
Does the price-history chart indicate what gold will do next?
No. It records selected historical reference rows only. Gold and jewellery purchases can involve price, liquidity and resale-value risks; history should not be treated as an investment forecast.
Sources and Methodology
Selected city reference: Groww — Gold Rate Today in Ajmer. A fresh browser-rendered capture on the review date showed the Ajmer heading, all three purity categories, a per-gram table and same-provider dated ten-gram history. A text fetch shortly beforehand returned an older cached page dated the preceding day, so it was not used for the selected quote or history. The widgets use only the fresh rendered source record; no competitor values, national figures or neighbouring-city values were blended in.
