Global rebound and domestic futures recovery

Silver recovered internationally on Thursday as the dollar eased following an overnight 18-month high. Reuters reported spot silver at $56.26 per troy ounce, up 1.1%, at 02:57 UTC on 15 October. Its report linked the broader bullion rebound to the softer dollar and discussed traders’ reassessment of US interest-rate prospects after September inflation data. The quote is a time-stamped spot-market observation, not a COMEX futures settlement. 1 (opens in a new tab)

In India, Business Standard’s report, first published at 10:56 IST and updated at 10:59 IST, said MCX’s benchmark December silver futures opened ₹690 higher at ₹2,09,028 per kg, against a previous close of ₹2,08,338. At the time of writing, it quoted the contract ₹832 higher at ₹2,09,170 per kg. The publication timestamps identify the report; the publisher did not supply a separate second-by-second timestamp for that quotation. 2 (opens in a new tab)

These domestic figures are attributed to that report, not presented as a fresh executable exchange quote at the time a reader opens this article. MCX’s official SILVER contract information distinguishes the 1 kg price-quotation unit from the 30 kg trading unit. A quoted price per kilogram therefore should not be mistaken for the cost or exposure of an entire standard futures lot. 3 (opens in a new tab)

What Indian traders should distinguish

The domestic rebound followed a volatile preceding session. The Economic Times reported December MCX silver 3.68% lower at ₹2,11,143 per kg at its check on 14 October, after an intraday low of ₹2,10,817. Those are earlier intraday readings, not the previous-close input in Business Standard’s next-day comparison. They cannot be combined into an undated “today’s silver price.” 4 (opens in a new tab)

Analysis: Dollar moves can affect dollar-priced bullion’s affordability in other currencies, while the rupee, domestic liquidity and contract maturity also matter for Indian futures. Neither the international rebound nor the domestic observation establishes that a sustained recovery has begun. Silver can reverse direction within the same session.

Search interest also increased. At 12:29:48 IST, Google Trends’ separate India, Past 24 hours, Business and Finance view displayed “silver rate today” as Active, with 20K+ and +50%, and a breakdown including “mcx silver.” These are Google’s rounded display estimates, not exact query counts or proof of what caused the interest. This evidence comes from the broader finance view, not the owner’s narrower commodities-category Explore query. 5 (opens in a new tab)
