Indian equities recovered after a largely flat opening on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, as technology shares supported the benchmarks following HCLTech’s quarterly results. Nifty 50 opened just 0.80 points above Monday’s close, while Bank Nifty began slightly lower. By 12:13 IST, official NSE data showed both indices in positive territory, with a much stronger rise in Nifty IT. NSE’s index snapshot (opens in a new tab) and Upstox’s opening report (opens in a new tab) establish the separate observations.

These are opening levels for the 09:15 IST session, not closing prices or an executable quote. Nifty and Bank Nifty opening fields come from NSE’s response dated 13 October; Sensex is reported in Upstox’s article updated at 09:46 IST. Changes are calculated against the corresponding previous close. Nifty’s small percentage change is shown to three decimal places to avoid rounding a positive move to zero.

The previous session ended with Sensex and Nifty closing lower, providing the correct comparison rather than an earlier intraday print.

IT leads the later rebound

The NSE snapshot carries an observation time of 12:13 IST on 13 October 2026:

This later table is a dated intraday observation, not a streaming widget. It shows IT outperforming the broader benchmark at that time; it does not establish how the market will finish.

Upstox’s morning report listed TCS, HCLTech, Tech Mahindra, Nestlé India and Infosys among gainers, and NTPC, Max Healthcare, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Power Grid and Tata Motors PV among laggards. Its movers list is an early-session report, not a synchronized 12:13 ranking or a list of opening trades. Stock movements can differ later in the session. 2 (opens in a new tab)

Earnings support, inflation and oil pressure

HCLTech’s Q2 FY27 release reported ₹35,620 crore in revenue and ₹5,132 crore in net income for the September quarter. Those disclosed results help explain the day’s IT focus; they are not proof that every IT stock will benefit equally.

On the macroeconomic side, September retail inflation rose to 5.54%. Reuters’ pre-open report also described Brent crude around $105 a barrel and provisional foreign net equity sales of ₹17.08 billion on 12 October. The flow figure belongs to Monday, not to Tuesday’s unfinished session, and the oil figure is pre-open context rather than a live commodity quote. 3 (opens in a new tab)

What matters through the rest of the session

The useful comparisons are whether IT strength broadens, whether bank performance catches up, and how subsequent earnings announcements alter company-specific expectations. Oil, currency and interest-rate developments may influence those assessments, but a single morning rally cannot determine their direction.

The Indian markets overview explains the distinction between research and market-data availability. This report preserves the opening and intraday timestamps instead of presenting stale observations as live prices.
